Specifications

This section includes PVC ceiling panels for t-bar grid, and accessories. Panels are fire rated.

Part 1                             General

1.1                                      SECTION INCLUDES

A.                 PVC ceiling panels and installation.

1.2                                      RELATED SECTIONS

List sections that specify installation of products directly associated with this section; indicate specific items.  In above ceiling mechanical and electrical work, the placement of anchors can be a problem if not addressed before installation of ceiling suspension assembly.  Coordination between the work of mechanical and electrical sections and the text of this article requires special consideration.

1.4                                      SUBMITTALS FOR REVIEW

Do not request submittals if drawings sufficiently describe the products of this section or if proprietary specifying techniques are used.  Include a requirement for shop drawings only when special project conditions exist or when reflected ceiling plans are not provided on the working drawings.

A.                 Section 01 33 00:  Submission procedures.

B.                 Product Data:  Provide data on PVC panel construction and detailed cleaning instructions.

Include the following paragraph for submission of physical samples for selection of finish, colour, surface texture, etc.

C.                 Panel Samples:  Submit [two] [____] samples of each size and color specified.

1.5                                      QUALITY ASSURANCE

A.                 Conform to CISCA requirements.

1.6                                      PROJECT CONDITIONS

A.                 Section 01 32 13:  Work scheduling.

B.                 Sequence work to ensure ceilings are not installed:

1.                   until building is enclosed,

2.                   sufficient heat is provided,

3.                   dust generating activities have terminated, and

4.                   overhead work is completed, tested, and approved.

1.7                                      DELIVERY, STORAGE AND HANDLING

A.                 Section 01 66 00 for storage and handling of materials.

B.                 Deliver materials in manufacturer’s original, unopened, undamaged containers with identification labels intact.

C.                 Store cartons laid flat, protected from exposure to sun, high temperatures or humidity conditions as recommended by the manufacturer.

Part 2                             Products

2.1                                      CEILING PANELS

In the following paragraph, list the manufacturers acceptable for this project.  Edit the subsequent descriptive specifications to identify project requirements and to eliminate any conflict with specified manufacturer’s products.

1.                   Material:  Virgin grade polyvinyl chloride (PVC), 0.76 to 0.81 mm (0.030 to 0.032 inches) thick.

Select the following texture and color.  Alternatively, these sub-paragraphs may be deleted and the ACP color code and description specified (which identifies both the texture and color).  If a variety of finishes will be used on this project, use a schedule in Part 3 to identify them.

2.2                                      ACCESSORIES

Part 3                             Execution

3.1                                      EXAMINATION

A.                 Section 01 71 00:  Verification of existing conditions before starting work.

B.                 Verify that layout of panels will not interfere with other work.

3.2                                      INSTALLATION

A.                 Install assembly in accordance with manufacturer’s instructions and as supplemented in this section.

Include the first paragraph below if a reflected ceiling plan is not included with the drawings; or the subsequent paragraph if a reflected ceiling plan is included.

B.                 Lay out assembly to a balanced grid design with edge units no less than 50 percent of acoustic unit size.

C.                 Locate assembly on room axis according to reflected ceiling plan.

D.                 Cutting Panels:  Using a utility knife and straight edge, score the finish side of the panel.  Bend panel at the score mark and snap apart.

Edit the following paragraph and sub-paragraph. Panels will be laid-in.

E.                  T-bar Panel Mount:

1.                   If grid covers are used, install them prior to installing panels.  Refer to GridMax installation instructions.

2.                   Install border panels, then full panels working across the ceiling area.

3.                   To cut panels, measure distance between t-bar centers, or between the t-bar center and closest edge of wall molding.

4.                   If hold-down clips are used, reach over the installed panel and snap over grid members.

F.                  Perimeter Molding:

1.                   Install edge molding at intersection of ceiling and vertical surfaces into bead of acoustic sealant that is not visible after installation.

2.                   Use single piece longest practical lengths.

3.                   Miter corners.

3.3                                      SCHEDULE

Provide a schedule when various ceiling locations, ceiling assembly types, acoustic unit designs, or other variables require listing for clarity.  Use a table if there are numerous varieties.  The following are examples to illustrate a scheduled item:

PVC ceiling panel minimizes the problem of water damage and mold/mildew that are traditionally experienced with fiber-based panels.

For use with most T-bar grid systems.

Suitable spaces for application include commercial kitchens, food processing, healthcare facilities, marine applications, high-humidity climates and clean-rooms.

  • ENVIRONMENTAL

PVC site cuttings and unused pieces can be collected and recycled.

Product may be recycled upon final disposal.

Can be used with ACP GridMax ceiling grid covers, CeilingMAX and HG Grid grid systems or any manufactured grid system that accepts 2’ x 2’ or 2’ x 4’ tiles.

Fire Performance:  Class A, ASTM E 84.

Flame spread (FSI): 20, smoke developed (SDI): 200, to ASTM E84.

  • PACKAGING, HANDLING, PROTECTION, AND DELIVERY INSTRUCTIONS

Deliver materials within original cartons and take care to handle and protect against unnecessary damage such as breakage, dirt, surface soiling, etc.

Recycle cartons

Allow all ceiling components to acclimate to room temperatures before installation.

  • LIMITATIONS

Certain chemical solvents should be avoided, contact manufacturer for specific information.

Genesis tiles are not intended for extremely high or low temperature service environments. Do not install panels in a facility subjected to extreme temperature changes and avoid these conditions during delivery and storage.

PRODUCT PLACEMENT

  • PREPARATION WORK

Perform installation as late as possible in the building process after any dust generating activities have been completed.

Install grid in accordance with manufacturer’s grid installation instructions.

  • INSTALLATION / ERECTION

Plan room layout providing equal border widths on each side of room, in both directions.

Cutting Panels:  Using a utility knife and straight edge, score the finish side of the panel.  Bend panel at the score mark and snap apart.

T-bar panel Mount:

If grid covers are used, install them prior to installing panels. Refer to GridMax installation instructions.

Install border panels (if used), and install full panels working across the room.

To cut panels, measure distance between t-bar centers, or between the t-bar center and closest edge of wall molding.

If hold-down clips are used, reach over the installed panel and snap clip over grid members.

  • MAINTENANCE INSTRUCTIONS AND PROCEDURES

Clean with mild soap and water. May be “power-washed.”

On a daily basis, moderate dust or vacuum clean with a soft, clean brush attachment.

On a weekly basis, provide manual wet cleaning.
